Gastrodia elata
The name "Tianma" first appeared in "The Treatise on the Effects of Thunder and Fire". "Tian" refers to the natural formation of heaven; "ma" refers to the shape of an object as if it were a shoe made of hemp. The ancients believed that Tianma grew in a miraculous way, as if bestowed by heaven, and its shape resembled the hemp shoes of ancient times, hence the name Tianma. Additionally, because Tianma was very difficult to obtain in ancient times, it was regarded as a heavenly gift from divine doctors, specifically used to treat dizziness, vertigo, and paralysis, thus this medicinal material was called "Tianma".
