Oil tea is distributed in Guangdong, Hong Kong, Guangxi, Hunan, and Jiangxi in China. It prefers warm climates, is not cold-resistant, requires ample sunlight, and should be planted in areas with gentle slopes and weak erosion, thriving in deep, loose, acidic soils. The propagation methods are seed propagation and grafting.
Oil tea can be used in medicine, is neutral in nature, has slight toxicity, is bitter in taste, and is associated with the spleen, stomach, and large intestine meridians. It has the effects of clearing heat and detoxifying, promoting blood circulation and dispersing blood stasis, and relieving pain and itching. It is a food served to guests and offered to ancestors by the Gelao ethnic group during the New Festival. It is also a high-quality edible oil, clear in color, fragrant in taste, and rich in nutrients. It can also be used as a lubricant and rust-proof oil in industry. Tea cakes can be made into pesticides and fertilizers, which can improve the water retention capacity of farmland and control pests in rice fields.
